Past the 500 Mark!

I finally did it! I made it past the 500 mark and now am in the 400's for the first time in over a decade, if not longer. Slow but sure is winning this race.

My blog got mentioned in Reddit and some of the comments were absolutely vicious. Some people were saying I should be losing weight faster if I were "really" trying. But you know what? How many of those super morbidly obese people who lost weight faster put it right back on? I'm making permanent lifestyle changes and the weight is staying off. I'm not yo-yo dieting here.

People assume that I ate 10,000 to 15,000 calories a day. Well, no, I wasn't. My metabolism was tested and just to maintain my current weight I only need to eat 3,000 calories a day. That's right. Just 3,000 calories. So, to lose 2 pounds a week, I eat around 2,000 calories a day. There isn't any way for me to lose it faster in a healthy manner.

Just 98 more pounds and the doctors will be able to take the "apron" off and I'll be able to take care of my own hygiene. I'll be thrilled out of my mind. I'll be able to walk without my knees having to lift my belly out of the way with each step. I'll be able to sit on the couch without needing the ottoman to rest my belly on. I can't wait!

  1. That's great Morphy. I'm shocked that people "care" enough to make nasty comments about your blog. Don't these people have lives? I mean, I read your blog because I care about you and your weight. These people obviously don't care about you, they just care about feeling self-righteous and nasty. The freedom of being mean without consequence. They're not the type of people whose opinions matter, and clearly they have problems of their own to work out. I pity them, because I'd much rather have a weight problem than a personality problem.

I also agree that it takes longer to lose weight when you're trying to lose it permanently. People who lose weight quickly almost never keep it off. For the very few people who do - good for them, but that takes a very special type of exercise routine/diet that I'm pretty sure I (as a healthy-weight person) am not capable of maintaining. Most people aren't able to perform that sort of miracle. Don't compare yourself to them.

I'm so happy for you that you dropped below 500lbs! Yay!

  8. You've made INCREDIBLE progress, so don't let them Redditors get you down! You've lost 30% of your old weight! THIRTY FUCKING PERCENT. Meanwhile, others, like myself, have only lost maybe 10%. You're doing way better than the rest of us in that regard!

  9. Hi Morphy. I know you from LT and I just discovered your blog today. I belong to FA (Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous.) It is a 12 Step Program for people with food issues and is based on the 12 Step Program of Alcoholics Anonymous
. Some of us come in underweight but most of us have been morbidly obese. I was not as heavy as you were but I could have been so easily. My top weight was 247 lbs and I am now between 151 and 153 lbs for the past 2 and a half years. Never been able to keep weight off before. Yo yo dieted all my life and always, always wound up heavier than before. If you would like support and a program to help you figure out why you over eat then check us out at www.foodaddicts.org. It has saved my life!!

  10. Holy Christ this is amazing. I am usually disappointed in these types of blogs because they never seem to be serious about what they are doing.

You, on the other hand, have made some incredible progress and have been honest and open about the struggles along the way. That in itself is very impressive.

I'd also commend you for not giving up when you started to struggle/ regain weight. I know many people who would have come to that roadblock and just given up. To keep going takes the kind of courage that most people lack today.

Keep it up. It will be worth it.

WOW!! Below 500! Congrats! All your hard work and dedication is really paying off for you! I hope the cancer thing is turns out to be nothing!..

My wife started the New Year off with her weight loss program. She has an enormous belly that she want's to lose. So far she is happy with her results. To be honest, I hate it, but she needs to get healthy so she can be around longer...

    Take care...
